Psalm 90:1-2 Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Florence Eva (Gilroy) Mannoia
1924 – 2012
Florence Mannoia was born November 8, 1924 in her parent's home in Manistique, MI. She was the youngest of seven children born to James Arthur Gilroy and Stella Maude (Cutler) Gilroy. Having grown up in a home dedicated to Christ and the Church, she was formed in her faith through the influence of her parents and the Free Methodist Church in Manistique. She earned an A.A. degree from Spring Arbor Junior College where, as in high school, she excelled in academics, sports and student leadership. It was at Spring Arbor where at 17 she met her future husband, Vincent James Mannoia. She later finished her B.S. degree at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI.
On August 15, 1945 Florence was married to Jim Mannoia and the couple subsequently moved to Chicago where Florence took employment at the Chicago Institute of Banking and the Veterans Administration while they lived first in Chicago and later in Melrose Park with Jim's family. Subsequent to Jim's seminary education, Florence and her husband moved to Beloit Wisconsin where she served as the pastor's wife and homemaker. They served as the Free Methodist pastoral couple in East Peoria and then moved to Spring Arbor Michigan in 1954. In 1962 the couple felt called by God to go to Brazil as Free Methodist missionaries. As mother to three children, Florence quickly earned the love and admiration of the Brazilian people and church leaders.
While in Brazil, Florence served not only as mother and homemaker, but also as school teacher in the missionary elementary school and instructor at the Free Methodist Seminary while also partnering with Jim in evangelistic work and planting churches. Upon returning to the United States in 1970, Florence developed and led Free Methodist ministries at their pastorate at Pearce Memorial Free Methodist Church from 1972-1978, as well as launching a nationwide program for women in the Free Methodist denomination. Her research on pastors' wives informed her ministry and the work she and her husband had among pastoral couples. She co-taught a seminary course at Asbury Seminary for pastoral couples with great depth of insight and a flair for poetic expression. With her husband, she guided young pastors and wives while her husband served at Asbury Seminary from 1978 through their retirement in 1993, and conducted couples retreats and women's retreats throughout the nation and world always committed to serving the Church. Many see her yet as a model of a Godly woman.
Florence's servant heart exemplified Christlikeness and quiet faithfulness that has touched thousands throughout the world. Whether as a pastor's wife, missionary wife, professor's wife, Florence was a woman of intelligence, elegance, poise, hospitality, musical talent, integrity, and was known for her gift of discernment. Her legacy and impact have shaped the character and formed the lives of her children, grandchildren, and countless others whose lives have been influenced by her remarkable spirit of servanthood.

She is succeeded by:
