LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Juan Leon, a former Associated Press correspondent and press freedom activist who was exiled from his native Bolivia during its 1970s dictatorship and later jailed in a coup, has died at age 72.

Leon succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Thursday, his family said.
