Mr. Calvin Dennis Deaton, 67, of Connelly Springs, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, May 9, 2022 at his residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Dennis was born on September 13, 1954 in burke County to John Calvin Deaton and the late Irene Berry Deaton. He was a veteran of the U.S Army, serving as a military policeman, and later worked for the Waldensian Bakery for many years. While in the Army he was stationed in Germany and at Fort Jackson, SC. Although he worked at the bakery, his dream job was managing the pro shop at Rivercrest Golf Course in Bethlehem. Dennis retired in 2010 and enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his fur babies. He was a sports enthusiast, especially the LA Dodgers and the Cleveland Browns, and was an avid wrestling fan.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Julia Pearson Deaton, a stepson, Jose Rodriguez, and a brother in-law, Garry Styles.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Church Deaton, two daughters, Crystal Deaton Moore(Chris), and Lorrie Deaton Powell(Tim), and a stepson, Adrian Rodriguez. He was also blessed with five grandchildren: Ricky Moore(Brittany), Dustin Moore, Adam Powell(Leighann), Brittney Powell and Haley Powell, as well as five great-grandchildren: Casidy Moore, Saphira Moore, Addison Moore, Arthas Moore and Gunner Murray, and four siblings; Mildred Davis(Jesse), Carolyn Brown, Jewel Styles, and Melvin Deaton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. Tex Deaton officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors provided by the N.C National Guard and AMVETS Post 76, Hickory.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org, the Veterans Administration, at www.va.gov, or to a charity of your choice.
