Forence was a treasure and a door opener to the world of neglected women writers. I met her in 1981 when she was an advisor to our project on creating a series of television dramas based on short stories about growing old. Her input was invaluable and she introduced us to Tillie Olsen. It was "The Convert" by Elizabeth Robins, republished by The Feminist Press, that led me to years of researching Robins and writing a play about her. Florence took the trouble to come to a reading of it and offer me advice. She was a consummate nurturer.
