It was such a blessing to witness Toots performing at Rototom (Spain) B.B.Kings (New York),
The Norva (Norfolk, Virginia) & on the JAMROCK Reggae Cruise 2016. As a reggae enthusiast, recognizing a stellar performer with a SPIRIT filled with an abundance of , lots of SOUL
& tons of ENERGY! He bought so much JOY to my . Toots was one who expelled ska, rocksteady, reggae, soul, R&B, country & gospel all in a single performance. Like NO other!
A TRUE class act!
I am VERY grateful I had the opportunity to experience attending his many performances. NO ONE will be able to fill his shoes!
His music will live on forever!
Give thanks!
To the Hibbert family...
May GOD continue to comfort, guide & strengthen you all during your time of bereavement, and most of all

There was many a morning I'd try to sleep in as a teenager and Sweet and Dandy would come blasting up to my little room. Bleary-eyed, I'd join my family downstairs while the music blared on, album on repeat, for hours, my father and sometimes my mother dancing the day away. I came to love reggae and especially Toots, playing his music throughout my four-year college radio dj experience, and eventually seeing him perform live several times in a few different cities. I have a special fondness for Pressure Drop, which became our father-daughter dance at my wedding in 2008, shortly after my father nearly died of aortic dissection (get it?) then somehow made the transatlantic fight to walk me down the aisle and dance once again to timeless Toots.

Toots and the Maytals defined Reggae for me. I've told many people over the years that, in my opinion, Reggae Got Soul was the single greatest reggae album ever recorded. Pressure Drop holds the same spot for individual reggae songs. My heart goes out to the Hibbert family. Thankfully Toots' music will live forever.

I was introduced to Toots' music at a young age by my parents, who are huge fans. I am ever grateful for this introduction, as Toots has become a staple in my playlists for now decades. I saw him perform live upwards of ten times (far too few), and I unfailingly had an amazing time at each show. He inspired me with his energy, his passion, his message, his groove, and his vibe. What an amazing person he was. "Love gonna walk out on me" touched me like no other song has ever done. I mourn alongside his family for his light that I still need in my life.

I will never forget that day, back in the seventies, when I trekked to "My Father's Place" nightclub, in Roselyn, L.I. to see you, my man.
You so dazzled that small audience, that I have yet to recover.
You always gave your all, right to the end.
