Diahann Carroll was a sweet beautiful elegant woman. She was a trail blazer for women and afro-americans. I watched her on Julia as an elementary student. I watched her as a junior high student when she was in Claudine and as a college student on different world. Not to mention I watched her portray the very elegant Dominic Deveraux in Dynasty in which she gave very compelling performances. I did not realize she had a very beautiful singing voice which I heard on a tribute sunday to her with a love boat episode. Additionally, she had a wonderful speaking voice, Miss Carroll carried herself with dignity and grace. She was a wonderful role model and I will miss seeing her onscreen.

What an extraordinary career and life. What role model. What a truly great loss. I was hoping for a Claudine reunion; loved that movie! Dynasty, Eve's Bayou. Just to name a few. And of course JULIA, I watched that show as a child with such fascination. I feel the pain of her loss now and know that the Good Lord will forever hold her spirit. You have earned your rest Ms. Carroll. Thank you for all your talent and hard work. God Speed my sister, my Bronx Queen.

Diahann Carroll by far was one of the most dynamic and talented actresses ever to grace the stage and screen. She was a pure class act throughout her celebrated career. For me seeing her in "Carmen Jones" and "Porgy and Bess" and my favorite "Paris Blues" was always exciting. Her poise and grace where always impeccable and she displayed an intelligent presence on interviews on TV shows. Of course, when she did "Julia" as an African American I couldnt find a better spot on Sunday than watching her show, because I knew Black people who were successful and hard working and lived comfortably as a result. It is important because image for Black Men and Women in America had been tainted. Ms. Carroll and Mr. Poitier
were from a proud cocoon of young noveau riche intelligentsia who indirectly campaigned for the reality of upwardly mobil African Americans. Those who criticized "Julia" missed the point!!! Ms. Carroll in that role had made a change, a radical change for the SATURATED MAID AND AUNT JEMIMA image that mass media had stamped on Black Women.
Yes I will say it without hesitation,
she deserves respect and recognition for accomplishing this.
Not only did she show Black America in a positive light but she inspired so many of us to believe it was possible that one day we could achieve this and more. Believe back in the 1968 we needed all the inspiration we could get.

More dynamic and important to me was her character in "PAris Blues" who tries to convince Poitier's character to return to America to join the movement of African Americans. THis is so important.. In 1961 when the civil rights movement was in its infancy here is "sister" Diahann advocating for the cause and to do so meant to take action. Powerful and anomaly that a Hollywood movie would even allow a Black Women to make such a statement.

Last but not least one reason the Academy Awards has fallen on hard times in its ability to profit . It's greatest since as a cultrual resource is been blind and it has overlooked the most incredibly talented African American actors in the world and not honored them.

Yes, Ms. Carroll was nominated for "Julia" but she should have won long before that

I am blessed that I lived in a time were proud African American people pioneered against insurmountable odds to maintain their dignity, their integrity and leave a legacy that remains bright and regal forever

Ms. Diahann Carroll

Thank you for being a part of my life

It's God's Will And We Must Comply
By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.

Life is uncertain,
But as sure as we are born one day we must die
Sometimes we sit and wonder why
The fact is it's God's will and we must comply.

Throughout our lives we live through happiness and sadness
And many toils and strife
And when our earthly life is over we enter into our eternal life

Whenever a loved one or friend makes their earthly depart
It is natural for it to bring hurt and sorrow to our heart
And to deal with our loss we grieve, mourn, and cry
In all essence we must remember this is God's will
And we all must comply

For those of us that are left behind
We must cherish the special memories
And keep them all in mind
Just remember it is not for
us to question why we have to die
It's God's will and we all have to comply

May God Bless and comfort all of you

She was truly groundbreaking in being the first black woman to have her own tv sitcom. I remember watching her on her show as "Julia", who was a single mom and a nurse. She not only had a respectable profession, but she seemed to be the only African American living in her apartment building and was respected by all of her neighbors. And little Corey was just so cute!

I also remember her playing the sister of Blake Carrington on Dynasty, which was groundbreaking in itself, as she played the part of a mixed race woman connecting with her half brother, who was white! I also loved watching her on "A Different World" where she played Whitley's mom and went head-to-head with Patti LaBelle, who played Dwayne Wayne's mom. They were both extremely funny and they brought a kind of fresh comedy to the show with their bickering! I pray GOD will continue to bless her soul and spirit and give her family the strength to celebrate her life and legacy. May you rest in peace Ms. Carroll!
