I was very saddened to find out just last week about Mr. Woodwards passing. Unknowingly, Ive been watching Mr. Woodwards wonderful artistry for decades on shows such as Star Trek and Dallas, but I became much more familiar with him in the last several years as Shotgun Gibbs on the Wyatt Earp TV Show. I just love how he "owns" that character and what he brings to it, and as a horseman, I also love his special rapport with Roscoe the Mule. Of course, because of his wide repertory, I just never know when he will unexpectedly pop-up on my TV screen! I look forward to meeting Morgan Al Di La (on the other side) someday. My deepest condolences to his family; Morgan and all of you are in my prayers.

A kinder soul I never knew. So missed. Just isn't the same without him. I was loyal for more years than we could remember.

Sometime during the year 1969 (I was 18 or 19), I received an interesting phone call at my home. It was Morgan Woodward. By this time, I had seen COOL HAND LUKE ten times in the theater. I even wrote to Warner Brothers to see if I could obtain a script. I didn't expect any results. What a pleasant surprise when I actually received one. I called to ask if I should return it. No. It was mine to keep.

To get weird for a moment, I became slightly obsessed, not only purchasing a pair of mirror glasses but a weed cutter (yo-yo) as well. And, I actually ended up using it. During this time, I would write to actors requesting photographs. Morgan told me he didn't have one, but decided to call me instead. I recorded the conversation on my reel-to-reel tape recorder. Remember those? Before vcrs were on the market, I would tape movies, tv shows, etc. and listen to them.

During our conversation I related that I was interested in scriptwriting and had attempted a GUNSMOKE script. He encouraged me advising, "Well, you better start right now. Send it in and see what they say. But don't become an actor".

I mentioned after seeing CHL, I was disappointed that his face wasn't shown after the glasses were shaken off. I remember how the audience roared when the ambulance crushed them into the mud. Morgan confessed that he was to be revealed as a frightened man, but he didn't have the face for it. He was very gracious.

And, that's how I'll remember Morgan Woodward--as very talented, humble and personable--unlike some of his onscreen characters.

He was my favorite TV actor. A one of a kind. I loved his great voice and the way he pronounced his words. His great chiseled looks. What a great great actor. My favorite was his Gunsmoke appearance's. His autographed picture hangs on our wall along with James Dean.

Before retiring, I made a photo book for Morgan containing all the movies and TV shows he had appeared in during his career. I was especially proud of this book which I sent to him about three years ago. I never knew whether he received it or not, but hope he did and that he enjoyed it. My thoughts are with the Morgan Woodward family.

Morgan Woodward was a great actor, man, and great friend! I got to go to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum when Morgan was inducted a few years ago, we got to visit awhile and had a great time. I never met Mr. Woodward, but his daughter and I were great friends in junior high and high school.
In those days, "Gunsmoke" came on Monday nights opposite "The Monkees." She told me once that he called her on a Tuesday and asked, "Did you see me on 'Gunsmoke' last night," to which she replied, "No, Dad. I was watching 'The Monkees.'" I have laughed about that many, many times during the intervening years. I am sorry for your loss, Woody Raisin. May you be comforted by precious memories.

Morgan was a unique gentleman. He lived a wonderful full life and was a true blessing to his family, friends and fans. He encouraged and entertained so many of us--just watching him perform could change a bad day into one that uplifted you. He was a true American: fought for our country, pursued his dream with gusto and courage and lived a fine upstanding life very worthy of imitation. For those of us who admired him and to those of you who had the wonderful privilege of loving him in person, keep in mind that he is not gone forever. Hold in your hearts that infectious genuine smiling face of dear Morgan and always remember the great experiences you shared. Soon the terrible grief with melt away and the lovely memories will sustain you until you are reunited with him in Paradise, never to be separated again. What an amazing man! I met Morgan when I sang for his brother Woody's funeral in New Mexico (Woody and I would sit in church together). Enid his daughter escorted me to him, she told me he wanted to se me right away, and we sat for over an hour talking about his love for singing and opera. We kept in touch briefly over the years by phone, but I never forgot his encouraging words to me as an opera singer. His encouragement pushed me to further my career and education. Of course I remember him from Star Trek as that was my first exposure to his genius. What a generous, gentle and funny man. I will miss you. Godspeed. R.I.P. Love to Enid and Lynn, and the family. Peace!

I met Mr. Woodward on a few occasions when I worked at the Arlington Hilton, located in Arlington, Tx. , which was Mr. Woodwards home town. I, in fact, grew up just a few blocks away from the house where Mr. Woodward lived. I always loved his movie roles and have been a huge fan of his. The ironic thing about this gentle man is that he generally played mean characters on screen, when in reality, he was one of the nicest people you will ever know. That speaks volumes of his acting talent. Im sure there are many that love him and will miss him, and even though I was only fortunate to know him briefly, I am proud to call him my friend. Rest In Peace, Mr. Woodward.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He certainly had a career and life to envy though. I remember him fondly on so many tv shows and so many movies. He was one of the best "bad guys" on screen while being known as one of the sweetest and kindess men in real life. I was just rereading his bio. A pilot, a veteran, aspiring opera star and so much more in addition to being such a talented actor. My favorite role out of all he did I believe was as Punk Anderson on Dallas. I enjoyed watching him in everything though and I am so sad he is gone but know he is joining that ever increasing cast of stars from my childhood I grew up idolizing and liking that are now in Heaven. We dont have many left with us now. My deepest sympathy to Mr. Woodward's family and friends. He will be missed. Thank you for so many years of entertainment Mr. W. Godspeed and R.I.P.
