The man could play. But most importantly, Ed King could play what he felt in his big heart. Thats why others relate so easily, because he wrote music and played songs from his heart and soul. His solo in Sweet Home Alabama still sends shivers up and out my Kundalini like being electrocuted by a million bolts of electricity. There will never be another like him. Period!

Ed was a good guy, he didn't think he was above a guy like me, a fan. He told me on facebook that if it weren't for folks like me he wouldn't have had a job and thanked me! That's class that people forgot long ago. We chatted several times over the last few years online and he was just a helluva nice guy. I saw Ed play 3 times with Skynyrd and he always seemed to pick his heart out for the band. He put the Rock with the Roll... pick on Brother....

In the late 80s, Ed was on a break from the Reunion tour and he spent some time with a mutual friend in Ohio. He took time to visit me while I was recovering from a nasty accident with many broken bones, and he lifted my spirits. That's the kind of guy that Ed was - always taking a minute here or there for someone. Ed inspired me to become a better person, just by being himself and we stayed in touch loosely over the past few decades. Perhaps one of the greatest all around musicians out there, the world (and Facebook) is a lesser place without you Ed.

Lynyrd Skynyrd and their music were the soundtrack of my life starting at age 15. It is true that music can awaken and invoke memories of where you were, who you were with and what you were experiencing while the songs Ed and the band played echoed in the background. I have a vinyl copy of Street Survivors on my turntable as I type this message. My life was forever changed by their music and I thank them all for their contribution to me. I hope they will be playing a cloud near me when I join them above. Thanks Ed.

I saw him many times when he was in full force. Legendary because he could " Spank The Plank!" Lynyrd Skynyrd showcased several guitarists of high caliber and Ed helped to set the bar way on up there!

Ed was an amazing guitarist and songwriter. He had a unique playing style and creativity with chord progressions, riffs and solos that was truly original. The solo on Sweet Home is still one of my favorites. He and his Stratocaster, and Ronnies vocals, gave that album its distinct southern sound. I wish I could have seen him play live. Rest In Peace, Ed.

To the family,
Ed was part of in my mind the greatest rock and roll band of all time. I have everyone of their songs on my MP-3. I watched a special on Showtime the other night and Ed was interviewed
a number of times and 2 days later the man is dead. I feel for the family and all Skynard fans.
Rest in peace Mr. King. Doug Fontaine, Canterbury ct.

I was so lucky to see ED King Many times, He played his parts awesome and also played many of Steve Gaines guitar lines live, when the band reunited in 1987. The band was so tight then you couldn't throw a pebble threw it. He was an awesome song writer and guitarist. With all the many hits Skynyrd had many people haven't checked out the 1991 album and ed had a big part in writing that one. Ed was a huge inspiration to me and is in my top ten list of all time musicians. He will always be in my heart

It's fitting that the memorial photo shows Ed with his Fender Stratocaster. It was Ed's distinctive "Strat" sound that opened "Sweet Home Alabama". I can remember thinking, "Damn, all those Les Pauls, and here's Ed laying down that sweet sound". Dear Ed, you knew how to do it all: singer, musician, songwriter; an essential part of the Skynyrd sound. May God grant you a peaceful rest. BTW, I'm old enough to have played "Incense and Peppermints" in a late 60's cover band. If ever a song captured a time.
