Tribute & Message From The Family

Otis Mason Carter, Jr. was born on June 16, 1954, in Louisa County, VA to the late Otis Mason Carter, Sr. and Dorothy Ann Carter. With loved ones by his side, he stepped into eternity on Sunday, January 21, 2018, to be with the Lord.

Otis came to meet his wife, Helen in 1973 while working in Charlottesville, VA. The two would later marry on October 26, 1974, and call Gaithersburg, MD their home. The two were blessed with 43 years of marriage, four children, Tanya, Diallo, Tanisha, and Tiffany and three beautiful grandchildren, Joshua, Tatianna, and Malachi.

Our beloved Otis, or "Mason" and "Big O" as he was called affectionately, was an attentive and faithful husband, a nurturing, caring and protective father, and a fun-loving Papa. He was an avid Redskins fan, dedicated coin collector, staunch Solitaire player and gifted baker. He enjoyed playing softball for different leagues and was a competitive member of Thales' (Racal) Employee Softball League, where he was an accomplished employee for 23 years as a Quality Assurance Inspector.

Otis' favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family. From vacationing with Helen, attending family gatherings in Louisa, to watching TV and movies with his kids, and taking his grandkids to school, he enjoyed the comfort of his family and was surrounded by their love, always.

Otis came to know the Lord at a young age and demonstrated his leadership in Christ by becoming a member of Church of the Redeemer and serving in the Connect Ministry, where he would later become a Lead Usher. Here, he developed countless friendships with his brothers and sisters in Christ and fostered a heart of love and service.

Otis leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Helen; daughters, Tanya, Tanisha (Deonte Fleming - Fiancé) and Tiffany; son, Diallo; grandchildren, Joshua, Tatianna, and Malachi; sisters, Deborah C. Trice and Robin (Tony) Eure; brother, Herbert (Kathleen) Carter; close cousins, Charles (Ethel) Carter, and Mark Hughes; close friend, Karl (Yvonne) Herbert, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceding him in death was a sister, Joyce; brothers, Michael and Lawrence; nephew, Landon and niece, Dawn.
