"Somehow I missed the announcement of his passing. He was special to me because I was the first person to intercept his 2 meter HAM radio broadcast from the Space Shuttle Columbia. I received a coveted QRL card from him (W5LFL) after submitting my report to the ARRL. SCAN magazine also published a four page account of the event and a copy of my recording of the event was played at the Air and Space Museum during the 1985 National Boy Scout Jamboree. My condolences to his family. I will never forget my encounter with this hero. KB7YTP"
