"Our sincere condolences to the Hawkins' family, friends and colleagues for this great loss. As a youth I saw Mr Hawkins and the Suns play at the Spectrum in Philadelphia against the 76ers. Smooth, skilled and amazing is all I can say. You had to see him play to understand. May you find comfort in your warm memories together and the words of the greatest man who ever lived " Lazarus come out!""

"Connie sat behind me in Mr Delpin's history class at Boys high in 1960. I often talk about how Connie and Biily Burwell would each palm and dunk two basketballs each at the end of the layup drill at Madison Square Garden. This practice was subsequently banned as being too intimidating"

"To the Hawkins Family
I met Connie in Pittsburgh, Pa on the tennis courts and I did not know at the time How a celebrity he was. As a fifthteen year old tennis star in Pittsburgh he was very influental in my life. I remember when he allowed me to pick out tennis shoes from his store in East liberty, and I also remember him playing tennis with my dad and I he was a very down to earth person that I really enjoyed meeting. I live in South Carolina now and just found out about his passing and I am so sorry for your loss. I considered him a great man"
